Technically the Arlberg has always been a pioneer: The first ski lift was built in Austria Zürs, and the Galzigbahn in St. Anton was the first designed for use in winter operation.

In the years that followed the Arlberg became a traditional winter sports region, which offers 260km piste slopes, 180 km off-pist and 83 modern cable cars and lifts.
